Acclaimed Bollywood actor Rajkummar Rao is playing the role of Sourav Ganguly in this highly anticipated biopic, generating immense excitement around the film. The Stree 2 star’s first-look poster is currently going viral; it evokes nostalgic memories for cricket lovers, recalling the iconic moment after the 2002 NatWest Trophy final victory against England, when Ganguly famously waved his jersey in the air from the Lord’s Stadium balcony.
But the attempt at recreating the historic moment of the Lord’s stadium balcony with Rajkummar Rao has not gone well with a few fans. They said that the poster could have been more authentic and better executed.
From Batsman to Fearless Leader
Nevertheless, the film has every chance to be a gripping affair, if it brings to life the journey of Ganguly, the man who instilled a new brand of aggression in the Indian cricket team. The biopic will reportedly chronicle his evolution from an elegant left-handed opening batsman into an indomitable captain who transformed the face of Indian cricket.
National award-winning director Vikramaditya Motwane (Udaan, Lootera) is helming the film, while Luv Ranjan and Ankur Garg are producing it. Presented by Gulshan Kumar, Bhushan Kumar, T-Series, and DBL, this biopic features actress Tanya Maniktala playing the role of Sourav Ganguly’s wife, Dona Ganguly.

The makers have announced the release date for the biopic. Dada: The Sourav Ganguly Story is set for a worldwide theatrical release on May 14, 2027. This date was strategically finalized with the summer holidays in mind to maximize audience reach.
